With politicians in Congress like Lauren Boebert and Marjorie Taylor Greene I do not think we have anything to worry about. I am sure they are all over this.
Sadly if a country cannot regulate who has an AR15 gun and the ammo to go with it I am struggling to believe that they will have any interest in regulating AI.
From my limited testing of AI it is great at producing acceptable work but it does not take it to the good or great level. Currently I see it making humans more productive. You can get it to write something which you can then edit to make it better.
The code it generates you still have to know how to plug that in to whatever you are doing.
Free code on the internet to solve little puzzles is not new.
Can it get smarter?
Inevitably. Mobile phones have made people many times more productive. Cloud storage was a game changer. Once everyone had a secretary to type. Now most people type their own content.
Stopping technology will not happen.
Having a well-informed debate would be a good idea. A bit like Covid I think the genie is out of the bottle and it is not going back in.
