Although I understand Blake's concern, there is just no way that he can reasonably come to the conclusion that Lambda was sentient just from what he claims. I think the smart thing was to fire him if he was adamant in making such claims with no real proof so public. There are many AI that mimic human behavior, but that is not the same as the AI being conscious. For example, there is this AI Vtuber that is on stream pretty much every day, and although it seems to have formed it's own personality that seems very human at times, that doesn't mean that it is conscious. They are simply mimicing human behavior and through interacting with human behavior, it is getting better and better at mimicing. But that doesn't mean it has thoughts or feelings, since they still calculate everything in an instant and use pattern recognition to try to form sentences. Like at some points the AI Vtuber will repeat the same lines at random moments or just spam letters or numbers or phrases because it fails in it's calculations and fails to create a coherent sentence or phrase or interaction. Even the AI robot that we see in this video, although feels pretty human like when speaking to another human, is still only mimicing and doing calculations to form a sentence depending on the input. It's just a computer. I think the fear and paranoia of sentient AI is what is making people so adamant in claiming they know an AI is sentient. It's like they are so scared it's happening that they scare themselves into beliving it's right in front of them. And in some people, even if they understand technology, it doesn't mean they understand when an AI is conscious or not. That goes for me as well, but at the very least jumping to conclusion that it is conscious from a conversation feeling human like isn't what I'm doing....
