I'm an AI scientist myself. You absolutely hit the nail on your head when you say the difference between what you do and the AI is that experiences and elements of your own life get injected into your work and the AI cannot do that. The AI break down art into the underlying concepts and fundamentals and is able to smoothly interpolate between art in its training data. It can create "What if star wars but van gogh?" very easily because its just recombining the existing concepts it has in a well defined easy to picture way. We have a name for human artists who just combine pre existing works ideas together and contribute nothing of their own lives, artists whos only ideas are "what if batman met mario", we call them hacks. The real worry will be when the AI is jointly trained on literature and art and is doing the process of injecting lived experience in as well as just combining art together.
