How comes that there is no one talking about machine learning at all? Everyone is talking about the LIDAR system failing, but is it really that certain? I do NOT defend uber, I just say it´s hard to tell without haveing all informations needed. Neuronal Networks (let´s call them NN) are all about training data. How much of this training data was of people stepping in front of cars in the middle of the night while having black clothes (no light, no cateyes etc)? Also the self driving cars takes a mixture of inputs into account, like LIDAR, camera, .... , probablitity of the situation (based on input data). Those inputs are weighed differently, for example LIDAR is weighed "heavier" than the camera since it is less error prone. What if LIDAR did actually realise, that there is something there but the probability of it beeing a human was to low? What if probablity said, that a sane human would see a light coming and stop? What if the best solution to avoid the collision (according to the car) would have put the driver into danger? (someone was directly behind the car and hard breaking would result in an accident that would kill the cyclist anyway)
