I think this is a pretty interesting discussion. I mean, of course you’re not an artist by the classic definition if you’re generating AI pieces, but the output can still be considered art. A common definition of art is “communicating what can’t be expressed in words”. That says nothing on the process of transforming the message into a physical piece so clearly using generative AI is a valid option. This potentially allows people who lacks the talent and training to express their meaning through traditional methods to now do that. As for copyright, thats a bit difficult. Copyright protects the specific expression of an artistic idea, not the idea itself and to have it granted the artistic work needs to be such that it couldn’t easily be created by an average person with no specific skills. Considering that anyone could get similar putputs from midjourney given the same prompt, that should disqualify at least any raw output, but if it’s part of an artistic process that involves other processing and combining it with hand created parts it could reach the certan level of artistic work necessary. The question then is, how do you prove or disprove that the process is partially manual?
