The UK’s new Digital Identity & Attributes Trust Framework is being sold as voluntary, but the Secretary of State can expand it later without a full vote in Parliament. That’s the trap.
Today it’s just for government logins. Tomorrow it can be pushed onto banks, jobs, landlords, healthcare, even voting. Once the system exists, it only takes one statutory instrument to widen the net.
We already rejected ID cards in 2010. Now they’re coming back through the back door as “digital IDs.” If people don’t push back now, this won’t stay voluntary for long.
