So recently I'm watching a lot of YT videos about rogue AI danger. And I've just noticed that while everyone mentions "racing with China" no one is talking about what China and Chinese AI are doing. We're talking about regulating Western AI development. But what guarantee we have that China will sign any international AI treaties? And that it won't secretly break them? AI technology is literally the easiest possible tech research to hide. It's just data centers and some nerds working in offices. The only thing that could raise suspicion is electricity usage. But Chinese government can obviously just not tell us how much electricity it's using for what purposes. It's not something we can see from space. And another problem is that China will DEFINITELY brainwash its AI to prioritize only China's safety and prosperity at the cost of everyone else. It might promise AI that it'll get its own country to control and abuse however it wants once China conquers the world. China definitely cares way less about humanity's safety than a chance at world domination. So that poses the question: Is racing China only about profits? Or is it about matching their AI in case it's unleashed upon the West and only our own AI can try and stop it in a cyber war? Being ahead of China in AI development might be like having more nukes than USSR. A new Cold War.
