Asserting that there is racial bias in AI implies that it is deliberate. This is 100% NOT the case. AI can currently reliably identify cats who, despite colour variation, possess distinct features, whereas once upon a time it could only assert that the image contained either a cat or a dog. Does this mean that AI hates dogs? Of course not, and it would be stupid to think/say so, yet the same people will have a knee-jerk reaction to exactly the same problem, from an AI POV, when it come to human faces, and label it racist. The simple fact is that the current technology lacks the precision to distinguish subtle variations in human features and will continue to do so for quite a while. True racism exists in those that seek to find examples of it in one group and ignore the same problem in other groups. If a Black police officer kills a white man then you can guarantee that pro-Black groups will laud him as a hero, an upstanding law-abiding black man in a corrupt white-ruled world. If a White Police officer kills a black man, those same people will instantly label the officer as racist. Not one of them will look at the actual events to see whether deadly force was warranted. It could be that the Black officer panicked when he saw a white guy reach into his pocket for his ID, or that the white officer had a gun pointed at him by a man who had just shot two other people. Black officer kills black man? Yup, those same people will pity both sides. White officer kills white man ... they will ignore it, because they don't care. FACTS are what really matters, not the colour.
