I wouldn't like to be driving on the same road as Melanie Mitchel, her blinkered view of cherry picked dangers, mitigated by shortsighted rhetoric would make her a danger to everyone on the road. An example of this ludicrousness is categorically throwing out the possibility of an AI solving climate change and destroying humans in the process - because why would we design an AI to ignore our survival. It's obvious to any rational, forward thinker than an AI would put human existence first and accidentally trigger a tipping point in climate cycles. Or it could cure cancer only to accidentally cause sterility. Honestly this level of denial doesn't deserve a place at the podium.
