I fully agree with your point, particularly the notion of using AI images for reference to achieve any sort of precision is lunacy. But the example of the rabbit with its nonsensical waistcoat illustrates the one thing I think AI absolutely excels at, which is producing artwork that is truly alien and strange. If you want to create something lovecraftian, something that human minds were not meant to process - just don't have it be processed by human minds. A human artist wouldn't think to draw a waistcoat like that because it makes no sense, but if you want to make something feel strange, maybe making sense is not what you want. The bad part about it is that even for this application of AI, it will still need training data - which the companies behind the models likely won't pay for.
