I'm genuinely curious about how they thought this was going to go over. Like, companies do stupid shit and expect it to blow over with a pretty statement all the time, but this is something else. Even on the most basic level, ignoring literally every other issue in volved in this, you're asking writers who work their ass off to write 50k in a single month, you're asking them to accept people plugging a couple prompts into a generative """AI""" getting the same credit as people who put in so much work is absurd. And like, none of this is about helping disabled people. We know it on a base level, and we know it because good tools to help people with disabilities exist. They're not perfect, but no tool is, simply because disabilities fundamentally change a way a person does certain things. Spellcheck exists (even if some have been getting worse thanks to certain 'ai' changes), dyslexic-friendly fonts exist, transcription tools exist, we could go on and on. I fucking love their claim of 'classist' issues surrounding """AI""", because yea, no. It has the same energy as claiming something is being racist against white people. When I participated in NaNoWriMo, I didn't bother with editing and such in part because I didn't finish but also in part because it was planned to be a first draft, something I'd go over again myself. Also there's the fact that, y'know, you have to pay for the """"AI"""" garbage, so it's actually withheld from the people who supposedly need it the most. Almost like h ow classism actually works. That whole comment about disabilities making you unable to see issues with ones writing is just. So incredibly scummy. Someone else said in these comments said something along the lines of "I would've rather just been called a slur" and I agree! Just call people with disabilities a slur, it would get your point across so much faster.
