Shad's whole thing is that he believes himself to be the smartest man in the room. He's such a great writer and such a great artist and knows so much about weapons from a specific part of the world during a very specific period of time, how could he be wrong about anything? I mean, it's not like he's been wrong before, right? AI art is theft, not just of art, but of one's ability to create. People pursue art to express themselves and the want to express it better leads to the development of new techniques and the advancement of one's skills. To see offloading that to someone else as an improvement of your own skill is patently and blatantly false. All you're doing is telling the computer how to do better, not bettering yourself. To those that support AI art: in the event that the Internet goes down, whether that be a few hours or forever, how will you create? What skills have you gained? What body of work could you show? I can open countless notebooks' worth of doodles, show probably too many images made in MS Paint (that aren't great but I couldn't give a shit, they serve my needs), multiple paintings and charcoal drawings, get on a drum set and give you a solid beat, write you a story, so many skills I've learned over many years as a means to express myself. Are you really expressing yourself with AI art, or is the computer doing that expression for you? What catharsis will you know when your access is denied? Even as one who has done digital art since the concept began, I find frustration in my lack of skill, but there is satisfaction in the realization that I have improved in some way through practice. If you compare "your" old work with the new, are you really comparing your ability to better prompt a machine, or are you comparing an improvement in the model you used? None of what went into the finished product could ever truly be yours. Stop stealing from yourself. If you wanna draw stuff, then draw. If you wanna make music, then start playing. It will take time and effort, but it took every artist functionally their entire lives to get to where they are now. As the saying goes, "The best time to plant a tree is 20 years ago. The second best time is today." Or, as a much better artist friend of mine said in response to his cousin saying they wished they could draw like him, "You got 17 years?"
