The big selling point of automation assisting human drivers was creating a line of trailers run by computers following a driver over the long distance run. Let's then take that and simplify it. Instead of computers following a driver we have a coupling mechanism that can pull multiple trailers by a vehicle in a row. Now you may say: "but on a road that might sway and get out of control real quick," and to that you're right. So let's put this vehicle and attached trailers on a fixed road it can't jump off of easily... or better yet a set of metal tracks that the vehicle and trailers can ride on and not have to worry about unnecessary movements while in motion. And to increase efficiency on the tracks we can replace the rubber tires with metal ones. Yes you'll lose some braking performance but with little traffic or a**hole drivers to brake check you not an issue. Now with the trailers under control we can now add more trailers and vehicles until we reach a physical limit for the rails to carry. Now we can also add more tracks, as it doesn't take nearly the same real estate as a standard road, to wherever we need and have these warehouses located close to a rail network to load and unload logistical cargo. And finally you can keep the truckers doing short haul destination routes from these hubs. All this accomplished WITHOUT AI and you can move any truckers displaced into the rail industry to be taught to drive the locomotives. Please send all AI grants to me now
