It is absolutely true that AI will replace many people in jobs requiring low IQ. The productivity of those who remain employed will then increase considerably, as will their wages. As for those who find themselves unemployed because they have been replaced by AI, the economy will be forced to pay them a “universal salary,” not unemployment benefits. Why? AI will contribute to a significant increase in supply while, at the same time, demand will collapse. Indeed, it is not enough to produce more; consumption must also increase. The absorption of overproduction will only be possible through the universal payment of salaries to the non-employed, who will then go to the cinema, restaurants, etc. Ford clearly understood this imbalance between the increased supply of his cars—generated at the time by unrestrained Taylorism—and the weak demand from his workforce. This imbalance was partially corrected through a significant increase in wages, including those of assembly-line workers. With AI, we are in the same situation, hence the need for a universal salary.
