This is somewhat misrepresenting the arguments for AI art by using xqc and asmongold as the spokespeople here and engaging with rather shitty arguments. - A definition of art I ascribe to is art is any "creation" (see below) intended to be art or perceived of by someone as art - AI art is not "non-human" art as AI is not sentient / conscious. You might argue that AI art is a collaborative effort between developers of the model and prompters, but I tend to think of the model as a complex tool (like a camera) and the prompter as the artist (the person with artistic intent) - Using bits and pieces of art is super common in music (sampling), why is that suddenly a problem when it comes to visual art? Also some music, like Weird Al, parodies artists and in the process uses a bunch of aspects of their songs -- why is this okay, but in the style of not? - The effort argument is dumb, art isn't better just because someone grinded for the whole life to get better at something. To me, that is glorifying the means. People practice painting so they can paint what they want, not to show off their epic painting skills - The soul argument is just vague - I agree that most AI art is shitty, I also think most art in general is shitty. Everybody is just trying to find the needle in the haystack EDIT: I would also like to add that I believe art is a process of discovery moreso than creation. Thinking in terms of creation glorifies the person making (discovering) the art way too much, I like to think instead that artists discover new aesthetics / sounds / whatever, and then share their discovery with others
