The autonomous driving levels were formulated a long time ago. Before any modern advances. There needs to be another level or a 'co-level' at level 4. That level would be 'anyplace in any condition without direct supervision'' but with a driver available either in the car or remotely. So, if a driver is in the backseat or driver's seat or in the trunk (in the car) and the car can be driven by that person out of a hazardous situation OR remotely.
I would trust being driven in the back seat of a v14 car now. But I'd want to be able to take over. I don't believe that it can handle every situation and I'd want to be available to take over. I WOULD NOT send my children in the car without someone available to take over remotely. It's not about immediate safety. It's about being stuck in a weird situation. Being flipped off, honked at, etc. is not as bad as an accident, to be sure, but it's not NOTHING.
The cybercab eliminates this possibility EXCEPT for the remote -. but what does it do in areas without coverage and basements? I'd have it avoid those areas in order to maintain LEVEL 4B' or NEW LEVEL 5 (out of 6). And then cars with steering wheels could be allowed everywhere as long as there's a licensed driver in the car.
