First off, before anything else and people may misunderstand anything i am about to say : I do highly respect artists for their skill and hard work they put in their craft (heck, i myself have commissioned artists for art of my RP OC in the past). And art made by an actual human will always be more personal and "Real". Also, i do not support people who only do AI art and refer to themselves as actual artists. Call yourselves prompters, rather. That being said, I do not like the narrative that some artists try to push here. It seems to me that some of them are trying to say "If you do not have the skill/talent or the needed time to make something yourself/learn art, nor have the money to pay someone else to make it for you as well, then you do not have the right to it, despite there being free alternatives that can get you what you need (Or at least get you 90% of the way). And what irks me even more is that most of them are highly hypocritical. Because i guarantee you, the majority of those those whining about AI art on Twitter, Youtube, Reddit or anywhere else have downloaded or emulated at least a few games, DL'ed or streamed movies, MP3s or other media for free in their lives. And all of those media involved people putting hours of pain-staking work, creativity and energy into making any of those things. I get highly bothered by those trying to tell people, that unless they either pay them for commissions, or learn how to draw themselves, they can not get to see their OCs, ideas, favorite characters or scenarios come to life..when CLEARLY there are tools like for example AI out there, that can help people who lack the skill, have no time/energy to learn it or the money needed to pay others achieve said goal. And those artists, who say "People who don't have time to learn drawing are just lazy" : try saying that to people, who are working two, almost full-time jobs that amount to 70-80, sometimes 90-hour work weeks, just to scrape by because you're taking care of family, mortgages and bills; or are studying and working because they have to keep up with their rent and loans..ALL WHILE still trying to find enough sleep on top. And believe me, i know plenty of people who are doing just that, me included. Then come back here and try telling me again, that all these people, who don't have the time to spend months or years to learn how to draw at least to such a degree, that they can express whatever they want to see at a level comparable to that of an AI piece, that came out decently well...are just lazy. I assure you they are not. And furthermore, if you seriously are going to make someone like that choose between having to pay anywhere from 35 to 100 $ for a single commission (because that is what most artists usually charge for a piece with a similar level of detail, colors, etc. to that of a decently well made AI-piece. And that's just for ONE commission piece, mind you.) and having less food/groceries for the month, especially in today's economy..just because they wish to see some of their ideas/characters come to life in what little free time they have, when they could make dozens of different pieces without paying potentially thousands of dollars, then AI Art and their users aren't the only problem here. Also, it baffles me, that the artists who keep repeating "Everyone who needs artwork done should just learn how draw instead of using AI art" do not see the pure irony and stupidity behind that line. Think about it. If everyone, who needs artwork to be done ACTUALLY learned how to draw well enough by themselves...then they wouldn't need to commission any other artists for it either, would they? And if everyone was an artist all of a sudden, it wouldn't be a feasible livelihood anymore as well, now would it? Now, those people who use AI art...sure they may not have to consult artists as much, but they at least still won't be able to do art of their own. And AI art currently has a lot of limitations, so if they need a piece to be done seriously, professionally and without errors, they WILL have to commission an actual artist for it, if they can't/don't want to learn it. Now, before you raise your torches at me. I ABSOLUTELY do not condone any AI prompter to try to steal someone's art style or use the works of small artists to add to their machine learning, etc. And i 100% agree that those people, who plagiarize/recreate other artist's work and try to pass it off as their own or try to sell AI art, need to be punished. Plus, If someone wants to have a certain piece done seriously and they have the means or resources to, then i absolutely would always recommend them to commission an artist for it. Because art made by an actual human artist will always have the kind of soul and love for the craft put behind it, that AI art just can not reproduce (and probably won't be able to for the foreseeable future) and thus is always better for serious things and works to be done and absolutely worth the price to someone who can afford it. But saying that AI art as a whole should not be used at all, or be completely forbidden/eradicated, even for those who just use it casually without harming anyone, just goes too far. And who knows, there probably will be a new AI learning system or algorithm, that does not have to rely on existing artworks eventually. Then this whole discussion will be mostly a moot point anyway. I say, that the people who just do it for fun, do not try to earn money or steal jobs with it and just genuinely want to see their fantasy art piece/favorite characters or OCs in different poses and scenes be realized in a picture, without having to shell out hundreds of dollars to commission artists or being forced to learn art, when they lack the time and/or money, then just leave them the heck alone, lmao. Lastly, like almost everything, AI Art is just a TOOL. It is not some autonomous entity that acts by itself and relentlessly generates or copies artwork. It still needs people to give it commands and parameters to do anything. And unfortunately, like with almost every other good thing, there will always be bad people using it the wrong way. We shouldn't be demonizing AI art in itself, nor the people who use it without harming others, only the bad actors who misuse it.
