Another disabled artist here! I agree with what I’ve been seeing others saying. I find it incredibly infuriating and insulting when AI fanatics claim that their systems are for our benefit, knowing full well that they likely wouldn’t hold the door open for a disabled stranger or offer up their seat on the train. One of the early “images” generated for this excuse that stuck with me was the one going around of a girl with no arms trying to hold a pencil to draw. Everyone railed on the creator in the comments because of how insensitive it was, as so many artists are disabled. It felt like such a gross misunderstanding of our community? In my case, I tailor my art on any given day to my energy levels and needs, because I know that sometimes one medium just won’t work out. Part of my experience has been learning to adapt and being willing to try things that might be a bit unconventional. Having someone who doesn’t know our experiences come in and claim “this will solve your problems”, when it isn’t a problem to begin with, honestly just leaves a bad taste in my mouth.
