Feelings, emotions? Do you seriously believe they have nothing to do with intelligence or with creativity? Do you seriously believe the heart or our bodies have nothing to do with the brain, or that individuals have no need of others? No relationships? Do you seriously believe we know ourselves well enough to pursue and find happiness, to make life better in our world? What if we are just arrogant apes playing with fire? What about love, responsibility, hate, the day/night circadian rhythm that creates modes and tonalities of feeling and even thought, ideas, imagination, and better ways live without being driven by necessity? Let the robots create our wealth! Why mourn the loss of false dignity? Isn't the whole concept of human dignity ridiculous in the face of a pointless universe? Wipe the old slate clean. Begin anew. Brave new world, that hath such people in it. Only this time, the new technology seems mired in a tired old context, a history of one species that believes it is the lord and master of this world when we hardly know what this world is or what we think we are doing here. UBI? How do the retired elderly survive it? UBI plus technology = freedom from necessity? Maybe, maybe not. Let's find out.
