People keep comparing human drivers to self driving cars. The argument goes there are lots of accidents from human drivers and why should you not expect accidents from self driving cars. This argument makes no sense as it’s bad human drivers that cause accidents. Self driving cars must be compared to the best drivers on the road that don’t have accidents. There is no way in the worldThat a computer system can drive as well as Good drivers which are the vast majority on the road. Most of the accidents on the road are from impaired drivers and drivers that are distracted by their phones or other things in their vehicles. Furthermore the police statement that this accident was unavoidable is complete nonsense. These types of situations happen all the time and rarely is there an accident. This was a low-speed road with streetlights and the person involved had reflective surfaces on their shoes and their bike. Even if someone was unable to stop in time they could have easily swerved to the left andAvoided this accident. This is a maneuver that the self driving car is just not capable of. Do they swerve to avoid collision, yes but they programmed to swerve to the right and at very low speed. There is also a theory that wants all of the cars on the road ourselves driving that everything is going to be better. This is complete nonsense there will always be people driving their cars it is a right that they will not relinquish. Experimenting with peoples lives unproven technology is negligent homicide.
