ai image gen is not putting your art in a giant database and collaging them back together. fundamental misunderstanding. What it's doing is no different than what you described you doing when you first started. When its training on "cat" it tries to replicate other art or photos of "cat", failing multiple times until it tweaks its nodes aka learns, just like you how learn to draw a cat. Its not stealing anymore then you are stealing when you looked up other art of whatever when you started. This being said, human art will never go away because AI still needs the prompt to come up with anything interesting, for now it can't do that on its own.
