Hinton definitely showed his progressive leftism with his TDS and obvious Musk hating. Funny that he speaks about echo chambers when he is projecting the very biases he would have received within his academic, research and workplace echo chambers. This man has a point about the need to control AI but he is typical academic in how he sees the world. They are only happy when it is them endangering the world with their ideas as he once did. He is a modern Miles Bennett Dyson seeing his folly late in the game than trying to turn back the tide he had a major hand in starting. Ilya left because he saw an opportunity to be ground floor for a different need in AI development. FYI Musk has done a lot more for the world than either Hinton or Ilya not in keeping with what Hinton is propagandizing. Musk helped trump and people like this pile on like a good little woke ideolog. Much like they did when Trump left the Democrats. Maybe he will love him again now Trump and Musk have split up. The usual vitriol you would expect from a person with his background. In addition I don't think a lot of people are that ignorant to the fact that YouTube, Google etc try to control what you view and think through AI. If you haven't noticed that what you speak about comes up as advertisement or story you are exactly who these companies and the government are looking to influence. That is why you turn off history on YouTube and research whatever you don't understand. People saw the downside of what Hinton has helped happen long before his epiphany and obvious and beneficial follow up revelations. I doubt he is doing this for free.
