As someone who WISHES they were a good artist but simply doesn't have the motivation to practice enough to become good, and who finds the prospect of having to practice for years to look decent overwhelming, I can definitely understand where this person is coming from. When you practice a lot but see people who've been at it longer and are better, it's very discouraging, because you can't help but compare your art to theirs. You often don't see their beginnings, especially if they only started posting late in their journeys, so it feels like they can just make these great things without as much practice or effort, while you feel like you've been slaving away at it with no progress. It feels like they're just a different breed. I feel this about my friends who are good at drawing all the time. But that doesn't mean it's true.
And even if it was, that still doesn't mean you're suddenly on more equal footing with AI. YOU aren't making anything. You're practically just commissioning an artist without paying them. You say "hey can you draw me this?" and then make minor adjustments until you're happy with it (if at all). Only you're stealing the credit from the artist by saying it's your art, you're not paying them for their effort, and the artist you commissioned is a plagiarist themselves (and also burned down a forest). If you don't see yourself as an artist for commissioning someone, then why do you see yourself as an artist for using AI? Am I missing something here?
