I taught in a district that was trying to teach Math in a different way, back in the 1980’s. I was the Teacher Leader for Math and it was my job to encourage and help 4-6th grade teachers use the program.
It included mental Math activities, basic skills, real-life lessons, and games.
I loved teaching this program, but it required a lot of preparation and a different level of classroom discipline to use all the materials and group activities! Many teachers were unwilling or unable to use the program effectively!
The same thing happened when in the 2000’s, the push was to use manipulates to visualize concepts and in the 2010’s to use laptops and video programs!!!
