The statement on going into Deep/Machine Learning without knowing basics reminds me of people wanting to know "quantum mechanics" and skip over the minimum half decade of required learning to even start that. People want to learn the fancy new frontiers of things rather than the basics they might legitimately understand like Newton's Laws
