I think the issue for folks saying that comes from the old term that computer art was cheating because with traditional art, if you mess up too much, it shows in the paper. Some people even viewed that as a badge of office. Wheras with computer art, you didn't have to work hard to cover your mistakes. And that's what separated traditional from computer generated images. And even now, you can tell the difference because of pressure differences because CG doesn't punish you for improper pen or marker sensitivity like traditional art. My counter to that long winded first part is most artists other than the once in a lifetime characters usually use tools like measuring sticks, paper rub, some used a method involving string attached to a weight. If you wanna judge computer artists, just gotta keep stuff like that in mind. That said though, I don't get the level of hate people have with AI art as a whole, but I am surprised that people come up saying they're artists. I mean we went from sorta cheating in the Renaissance era, to probably cheating in the computer era, to blatantly cheating in the AI universe. I love art in all it's forms, and AI art to ME is just a love letter to the people that it can reference off. And back in the day, I was obsessed with fan art which revolved around similar qualities. The only difference was, they usually drew their own derivative work. The issue from a creator's peespective is since AI generally spit out derivative concepts of the original, it falls under fair use. To me, I think it is cutting it close, not meant to be taken seriously. But, I agree that it is fair use, I think AI has grown in ways people could never achieve, and this is it's early stages. I think machines can do amazing things to be both terrified and in love with. That said though, there's a lot of things in this world to be terrified in that people love. I see AI as the end result of science proving that while imagination is subjective, art is not. And that's coming from a guy that makes comics. All because art can be bought and sold. And in many cases are the way that famous artists get famous. Agree with me, not, gloss over (I wouldn't fault it lol) but the fact is popularity is a double edged sword, and art is no exception.
