If carried to the logical conclusion, AI + Robots should lead to ALL transportation, production of resources, food and manufactured goods being done via automation. Same for all medical care, teaching, service jobs, basically anything that is a "Job". Robot production, repair, upgrades, etc. Even most research could be done via AI only. What will be left is directed research and exploration (meaning joint human and AI endeavor's). Of course, in such a case, the capitalistic system breaks completely because you need consumers that can pay, and there won't be any since there won't be any paid worker class. The fix would be to provide everyone the same level of "purchasing power". You would then be able to create an artificial consumer base and capitalistic system. Of course, this would only work if it was global. The caveat here is that the billionaire class runs the risk of loosing their power status in such a system. There would be no employees. There would theoretically be no shortages of anything except maybe timeshares in vacation spots. Their economic might would be reduced to nothing since if they threatened to shut their automated factories down, the government or even just the populous could simply take over and force the issue. So the question then becomes, who makes sure the factories are producing and who decides what they produce and who decides what is researched vs what isn't.
