Universal Basic Income is a patch, not a solution.
Remember, AI and robots pay no income tax or sales tax.
When 10% of the population is unemployable, 90% of those working pay taxes and we pay UBI.
When 50% of the population is unemployable, 50% of those working pay taxes and we pay UBI.
When 90% of the population is unemployable, 10% of those working pay taxes and we pay UBI.
Can you see the problem? When there's more UBI claimants than there are people left paying taxes, how do we afford UBI? How tolerable will it be for those still working to inevitably pay more and more tax to compensate for the fact that there's more and more UBI claimants?
There's a cross-over point where collapsing tax revenues are less than the UBI bill and then it stops working.
It'll work at first - a patch - but it cannot be a solution.
