I guess you could call it a disability - I’ve got essential tremor, and am currently seeing a neurologist to determine whether it’s just essential tremor or early onset Parkinson’s. It’s a progressive condition, i really struggle to draw now, it’s really upsetting as my illustrations have been my escape from the world. It varies day to day but some days I can hardly hold the pencil or stylus, and am completely unable to draw straight lines, just lots of wiggly lines now. Would I use AI to generate art? No. The joy of art for me is the creative journey and the peace the falls over my mind when I’m in the zone. So instead, I’m learning breathing techniques, pursuing medication, and investigating equipment to counteract the shakes. I also lean more into pointillism - I literally vibrate, so some might say it’s a no brainer! I imagine some AI bros might say I’m not disabled *enough* by the condition for my opinion to be valid, and try to straw man/one up me by conjuring a hypothetical paraplegic who *must* use AI to create. To that though I’d say I have a disability that gets worse year on year, slowly impacting my ability to do what I love. Yet, I’d rather make abstract chicken scratch sketches than ever have a machine print out some Frankenstein’s monster for me. For me creating art and ai generated images will never be equivalent to one another.
