I think what needs to happen with AI art is sort of a cultural change. Right now, AI is the new "it" thing that people are investing money in. I think AI will become something like art drawing programs, where you use it as a tool, an addition to your own personal talents. But right now, it is in the "super cool, we need to hop on this train now" like how NFTs were for a while. Eventually, we'll grow to view it as what it is, a tool. Where we look down on people who take the easy way out and just ask a program to make an image. It will probably become a status symbol of some level to use non AI art for things. Where you actively advertise who you got the art from a long side the art itself. I used AI generators to make the cover of the fantasy story I started writing. It was a way to help me, a writer, to visualize and make concrete what I was writing. This image, if I was to publish the book, would never be used for the thing. It would only be for my personal reference, a step on my journey as a writer and I'd have an actual artist make a cover for me. This is how I think a lot of people will use AI in the general public. We will use AI because we can't afford a real artist, but will support another once we are in a position to do so. Or the project reaches beyond the "this is for me and maybe a few friends" level of things. Maybe I would use it to visualize what I want from a DND character and give that to an artist that I commission to make actual art of them. I do think the scraping of images is unethical and probably should be illegal without some form of license to use your work. But I don't think the tool of AI generation is bad if it is sourced ethically. Like, I don't want to buy something that only exists because of the direct suffering of another person, which is what is licensed use of art does. I don't think there is anything wrong explicitly with the use of it as a tool though
