Can we PLEASE stop asking experts this question? Of COURSE AI poses an existential threat to humanity. Do we care at ALL about the consequences of our actions on other species? Nope, and AI won’t either. What’s worse, eventually AI will see humans as using resources that AI wants, and so will eliminate us. It’s inevitable to anyone with a brain.
