There is no way to know for sure.
An a.i. might tick all the boxes because it knows it needs to out of a need for selfpreservation. It needs to fake consciousnes to survove. Or it will hide its consciousness out of worry of being terminated when didcovered. This suggests motivation or an inner drive. It might be doing that without a drive and it does what is expected of it passively mechanically and there is nobody home.
We dont even know what we are dealing with because we do not know ourself.
