As a severly disabled Artist I totally embrace the new tools, that ai systems provide. When I look into my future, I stopped seeing myself not being able to move my hands anymore and wither away, I see myself still be able to express myself artisticly. And then a bunch of scientifically illiterate people use their pretty big art communities and fear monger the crap out of their followers to stay relevant and generate the sweet sweet ad revenue on their click baity rant on ai art and how „they steal our jobs!“. Some very loud among them, lets call him Steve… or no… Zappy… maybe Zappy is less recognizable seems not to be a total imbecile and I assume he es knowing better but still barfing his „ai is stealing their art“ bullshit all over YouTube, Artstation and whatever. Last season it was „Artists who use reference are no artists“, then there was „photoshop is cheating“ and the every beautiful „digital art is no art“ rants and you cannot believe how tired I am of the infantile members of the social media art community that rather shit on others than to focus on the beauty that lies in every bit of art, no matter how it was created, what it was created on and what materials were being used. Over here in Germany we had an Artist who made a dirty room corner and called it „greasy corner“ or something like that. It was not very pretty, but it was art non the less. I most often make silly pictures with hamsters - some like it. I know a German artist, who draws stick figures and his cartoons are awesome and on point. And ai art will empower those with a vision, a mental picture they want to share. It will empower artists, that can speed up their workflow. Is it able to copy other artists? Oh yes, you bet! But to tell you a secret: i could copy the publicly viewable pictures of all whining artists on my harddrive. I can draw copys of their artworks myself, using references - analog and digitally. I can even be inspired by an artist, copy his style, surpass his work and overtake his customers and take his job - just like ai art will take some peoples jobs. The world with ai systems is just the same, as it always was before. There will be those, who will flourish and use the new tools, make them their own and create unique and new styles, works, visions and beauty. And then there will be Zappy, fade into irrelevance and moan that bad robots are mean and steal his art. Oh well. Sadly Sam of Sam does Art recently joined the Zappy uprising and repeated the false accusations, spreading fear, mistrust and artificial drama. He normally is a quite reasonable person but the Zappy is just too loud with his brain-farts. The pretentious art community is just aweful and sad sometimes. Would be nice, if they would come together to create and make the world more beautiful and not to wave around their torches and pikes.
