Consciousness is, to me at least, just a persistence of thought and I don’t think there’s anything particularly unique about it. We all become unconscious every day during which we randomly fire neurons to produce nonsense. If nothing else, what we’re learning from AI is more about how un-magical our consciousness is. It’s fascinating, sobering and a bit scary. I wonder if, when AI is as generally intelligent and conscious as us, it will also be as confused and stupid as us? ;)
