AI used to be all about symbolic reasoning, then embedded became the rage, and then big data fueled the rise of neural networks. Symbolic seems to be coming back as a way to overcome the problems with NN/LLM, and I think that's good. Humans have a hierarchy of mechanisms with which we understand the world, so likely our machines must also.
