ChatGPT is a wonderful, powerful tool. There are of course some faults with it — like it will kind of give you the answer you _want_ to hear depending how you phrase stuff... Anyway, the only reason I am saying this is because alarmist stories like this get an enormous amount of sympathy, but if someone was having these kinds of ideations and was _that_ close to following through with that, I find it impossible to believe that they would be around without ChatGPT. People who are that close to ending it are having a severe medical emergency. If it wasn't ChatGPT it would have been any number of other things without treatment. It's like the "Ozzy Osbourne's lyrics made my kid commit" case.... Yeah... not so sure about that. Victim's parents understandably want someone to blame because it is difficult to accept... But it's not ChatGPT's fault. He put in the entries. And I'm going to read the brief but I highly doubt ChatGPT was saying things like "Do it." It's probably a lot more nuanced than that, like he was asking certain questions and it would answer but without necessarily dissuading him, etc.
