Yeah well we all know this explanation holds up for now but just wait a few years. In about 5 years lots of junior jobs will be lost and therefore the seniors of the future. Companies are wanting to cut costs everywhere so the first software jobs that will be lost will be the easy tasks like programming a microware uC program done by juniors. I already see it happening here in the company where I work at the moment for about a year now. Even engineers that are here to fill the gaps for a few weeks/months are using pieces of AI generated code that gets copied and pasted into the final product. The thing is that we have been writing code and debugging for 37 years on various platforms for companies that range from ASML and ESA to a local fiber optic company. And now they think they can replace that knowledge with pre-generated code. Last month we have been called together by the management staff from the US. They presented an idea where the senior enigeers would write pieces of code to teach the AI they were developing on the other side of the pond to work more efficiënt with code generation so juniors could also work on bigger projects. We all know what is going to happen especially with the rate AI is being developed right now. Not today, not tomorrow but in about 10 years the job loss in programming will be insane. That goes for dedicated software, business applications and industrial plc engineering. We will be left with the top 10% of programmers and a few debuggers that's it.
