First off, I want to say that you're an amazing artist! I envy so much people that are able to create great works on a whim, and I can absolutely see that you're incredibly talented! I also want to say that I'm not particularly on either side of the argument. I see both sides as valid for pro and anti AI art people. I do agree with a lot of what you said, but I did want to comment on a few points you made though. You mentioned that because all of the reference photos aren't credited when generating images, that it's incredibly harmful to those artists because their names aren't put out in the world. And honestly, I think if AI had a system that showed what pieces it was grabbing from and credited users, that would be fantastic! However, I don't think it's completely necessary. For instance, you talked about real artist gaining inspiration from other works they've seen, and it would be incredibly difficult to search your subconscious for every piece of art that's influenced your own. You didn't even realize you were referencing the rolling orange hills from your own life when you made your graphic novel. So if instead of scenery from your life, you were subconsciously referencing a piece of artwork you had seen, and didn't credit it because you had already produced your graphic novel, would that be harmful to that original artist? I don't think so. I think all forms of media take from other forms of media in both big and small ways, and it's a little unfair to hold AI Art to a higher standard just because it's references are with math, not the mind. But again, it would be way more possible for AI to show all of its reference images than a person, and think it would be awesome if they did that. You briefly talked about people defending AI Art because of disabled people, and then discredited their defense because those people either were not disabled themselves, or did not support the disabled community. I definitely don't agree with that statement. I don't have to be disabled myself to recognize that an accessibility ramp is useful for someone in a wheelchair. I don't have do volunteer work for disabled people to say that accessibility features in gaming are awesome and should keep being developed. And at the same time, that accessibility ramp could help someone in a wheelchair, but not necessarily help someone with a missing arm. Whereas AI Art may not be of much help to someone in a wheelchair, it could definitely be a help to someone with a missing arm or something that prevents them from using their hands efficiently. Having it their for people who need it is always a good thing, and unfortunately, you can't stop people who don't need it from using it as well. For me, I am an artist, but my entire life I've mostly done reference art (drawn directly from photos) and really struggle when it comes to making stuff from my mind. AI Art has helped me so much in giving my ideas some form. It has allowed me to overcome my creative hurdle and have inspiration for multiple things. And here's an example I'm really not sure of the right answer for. I'm a game designer, and I'm currently making the rules and moc-up for a card game. I think everything is great so far and I'd love to sell the game one day, but when I get to that point I will need art on all the cards. I've used AI to give me many reference images for these cards, and will probably end up using them to print the game when I'm ready to start selling it. Ideally, I would love to pay a real artist to make all those artworks for me, both giving someone a job and giving my game more life. But I absolutely don't have the money for that. I DO have the money to use a free AI Art generator to give my game ENOUGH life to be marketable and sellable. So should I, someone who loves making games and wants to sell this one, not follow my passion because I don't have the talent or the money to make the art that goes along with my game? Or Should I use AI to meet me halfway, hopefully sell many copies, and once I have the funds, perhaps make a second print with artwork from real artists? It's a genuine question, but I think the answer that EVENTUALLY leads to both artists getting jobs and me following my passion is the correct answer. What do you think?
