I would agree with your inspiration comparison if the art was being used with permission, but the ai blatantly steals art across the web without getting any sort of permission. It is theft of intellectual property.
Additionally, we have already started seeing people use ai artwork generators (that use stolen artwork) over commissioning real artists for things like book covers.
It’s definitely a very real issue and a lot of artists being concerned about it is entirely understandable.
