Very good interview. Don’t know him that well before, now realized he is a good decent & very smart person. It makes his point of view more credible for me. Mass joblessness is coming, I quite agree, especially in US where corporations have strong incentives to maximize profits and more or less have a free hand to do so. But it will also happen in many other countries because they will be squeezed from 3 sides, AI displacement internally, cheap goods from China and trade pressure from US. Most people will just have to turn themselves to small entrepreneurs and farmers, producing & selling whatever they could (including their own labors- be a plumber like he said) to whoever would buy them, and try to get by with less and less. The world used to be like that before industrial revolution helps create big corporations. I guess we are going to be like that again. For some countries that have less corruption and more distributive political system, most people life may not be so bad. On AI wiping us out, he is right that there are many ways it could do so once it reaches a super-intelligence level and human start to become a threat to it. I still think though that apart from AI safety that he stressed several time (and I do agree with him), we should also work to protect the most likely and most destructive path, e.g. nuclear wars and new artificial diseases. The rivalry between US and China also does not help. That should also be addressed urgently, for humanity sake.
