The iPhone argument is precisely the reason agi won’t develop to the timescale these experts claim. New models of iPhones are only created to sell a new model and make profit. His argument precludes market forces of supply and demand. People won’t want a new model of phone every 6 months, supply doesn’t equal demand at that point. He is completely ignoring the human factor in his predictions. Maybe these predictions will come true but definitely not the timeframes. A human plumber costs $100 an hour, what’s it going to cost for a robot plumber, a heck of a lot more. I don’t see robots ever taking low level physical roles when humans are cheap and expendable. Human greed will drive the usage of agi, and unfortunately humans will become worthless and will always be cheaper
