Elon hits the nail on the head about suspending serious consideration- but not just for thinking about AI but working on almost anything.
Most things aren't meaningful. Most things we aim for won't make us much happier long term.
Even meaningful things we do work on or build can get swept away or be done better by someone else.
But being motivated and feeling like we're doing something meaningful improves life, even if the thing we're aiming for actually doesn't.
So we have to pretend whatever we're aiming for is worth having- even while some part of us knows it isn't- just so we can have the sense of motivation, work and striving that IS genuinely worth having.
