Person who runs a small art department here. Since the beginning of AI I've always said that it wouldn't be *AI 'artists' VS artists* , but artists would just incorporate useful AI tools into their workflow and then it'd be people who can draw VS people who can't. And this is what happened: in our studio will use AI in the ideation stage to communicate with clients, we'll use it to quickly render our sketches so we can decide on a design (like do we want the character to have these colors, or those colors), we'll even cut bits out of AI images and photobash them in with our actual art. But the AI images we use either don't even end up in the product and it's just part of the development process or they're painted over/recreated so they fit with the existing artwork and to remove the ever-present AI artefacts. The idea of RAW AI actually replacing us successfully can only be said by someone who has never actually worked in an art department, it's LAUGHABLE :D especially if you're talking about animation such as using Spine 2D - good luck AI-ing your way through that one! There are so many fine details and tweaks that happen in art direction that I wouldn't even consider approving the hiring of someone who is unable to go in an manually edit an image. As far as I'm concerned you are incompetent and I'd rather hire a newbie and train them up. Even if AI was ethical, even if the process of art production didn't need manual artistry, AI looks generic and would visually cheapen our product.
