The winners and losers comment is very telling of the attitude that pervades Silicon Valley. Joseph Stalin said that one death is a tragedy and a million deaths is a statistic. This guy and his many tech bros fellow travelers are the epitome of this insensitive attitude. It feels okay to talk about losers in the abstract when the specific consequences to individuals are unknown, but to the person who loses their livelihood, security, and sense of self it is an absolute tragedy. I’m sure if it happened to him or people close to him he would be whistling a different tune.
