The truth of automation replacing workers is that it WILL happen, and nothing short of societal collapse (which would be worse in several ways) will prevent that. The government must pass legisation and appropriate taxes to ensure the transition of people whose jobs are deleted by automation to a new career. As others have undoubtedly pointed out in comments, if the people displaced by automation in the coming decade are left poor, they'll buy no products. Since the magnitude of unemployment caused by AI is going to be quite large (probably 15% - 25% unemployment in a combination of white and blue collar jobs), a plan must be made and executed to stop the nightmare scenario. Corporations will not do this on their own, because left to themselves COMPETITION ALONE dictates the winners and losers, with millions left destitute in consquence. Billionaires love to talk about the coming "age of abundance", but are bereft of DETAILS on how that is going to happen. "Just trust us", I believe, is their internal motto. I'm retiring at age 60 later this year because I have enough to do it. Others (MOST others) are not as fortunate, for any number of reasons. To the extent I can, I will help my kids navigate the coming avalance of BS I foresee.
