Everyone is so concerned, and this will cost a lot of jobs in trucking in the near future. I live in SF where Waymos have become a popular and functional alternative to Uber/car ownership, I've seen it outside my door for the last 5+ years. There is no stopping this automation revolution, it's too far along, and it's downright necessary. If it isn't American companies cutting the edge, it will be China or India or Europeans, then we become utterly dependent on their technology instead of our own. As for the jobs, it might sound callous, but literally learn something new, or if you have kids, tell them the truth about what the future will look like, and make sure they learn a craft that is complementary to the machines. They'll still need maintainers and designers, but operators are going away. Trades are a safe bet, but they're going to increasingly need computer science/literacy no matter what. AI is such a buzzword, but really it's a tool. Learn how to use the tool and you will have an advantage over those who will not.
