Just wanted to chime in on this part of the conversation about digital worlds getting hyper-realistic. It reminded me of that age-old thing parents used to say: “Go outside, talk to real people.” That advice made sense when digital spaces were shallow or limited—but we’re hitting a tipping point where the digital is becoming experientially equivalent to the physical.
To me, the meaningful test isn’t whether something is “real” in the traditional sense, but whether it has value—emotional, relational, experiential. If a simulated world gives you presence, awe, belonging, growth… then it counts. Same goes for friendships with AI. If the connection feels real and reciprocal, it is real in every way that matters.
I think one of the subtle but powerful shifts happening now is around shame—the idea that choosing virtual spaces or AI companionship is somehow less valid. That frame is breaking. And when it breaks fully, I believe we’ll look back and realize it was a lock we didn’t need to carry. The future shouldn’t guilt people for choosing the realities that nourish them, whether digital or physical.
