The issue (apart from the fact that you can't call yourself an artist if you don't actually produce the art), is that random user #84958 uploads something online and it belongs to the platform (we've been doing this for a decade or more btw and nobody, NOBODY actually complained), but the big guys who already made billions on franchises, them, they're different. They can sue. They're important. Fuck this whole system. That said, yes Midjourney learning and a toddler learning, that's both learning. Evolutionary algos and evolution, that's both evolution. It's different in application but it's both complex. You can't go an argument "AI is so complicated and a toddler sees a cat and says 'cat'" while completely ignoring the utter complexity of the human brain. As for the arguments for AI being just a tool and replacing artists content, I want to ask whether any of the readers knows about the terrible quality of gig illustrators or copywriters who work based on volume and spin off the same templates over and over again. Those are humans, they've been displacing the job of actual creative and pulling market prices down for ages, producing terrible slop, and I haven't heard any complaint. The job losses are real, the greed is real, but anti-AI people need to stop thinking that AI invented those problems. We've been collectively turning the internet to shit for years, out of complacence, and THAT is the root cause. I hate where AI is going, I do. But stop talking out of your ass if you want to be taken seriously by the "Tech bros" who still have their head on their shoulders. Knowing how creative are unfairly treated by the tech world and many other industries, from a long, long experience, you guys need allies here.
