For a while tech operated like capitalism with cheat codes on, you could sell software because it is genuinely useful, but its also a product with essentially zero reproduction cost. That would have been enough to make Henry Ford blush, but once everyone had the software they needed, the industry had to implement even more artificial scarcity in the form of subscription models and token fees. This is all to say we have a crisis of overproduction on our hands. They aren't going to beat that by over producing on behalf of whole other economic sector - a Zillion Gigawatt B-Roll generator is not going to earn more than the entire market cap for all B-Roll stock footage providers. Take a step back and think of how absurd this situation has become - these are tech monopolies which are able to hoard the rights to the basic infrastructure of modern society and extract as much rent as the remaining economy is able to bare - and their next growth frontier is to undercut artists? Artists? The famously impoverished and under compensated social class? Do you know why nobody tries to engineer a robot that can pick blueberries? Because that robot would have to operate for centuries without repair before it was even marginally more cost effective than just paying a human by the bushel. There's no way any of the institutional players are operating in good faith here, they're just gassing the rubes and cashing out just before the inevitable market crash so they can hoover up every asset in the real economy that suffers collateral damage from their psyop.
