Geepers - the folks claiming sentience look dumb as rocks... Currently LLMs produce plausible output when prompted. If there is no prompt nothing happens!! The fact language is "loose" means any idiot can reel off 5000 words of utter bollocks - and frankly a lot of people do. Perhaps thats a skill? Sentience would mean a model was somehow architected to follow its own path with zero input. Thats not how ChatGTP is set up. At some point we may create what looks like a sentient entity. But a different architecture will be needed, one that permits the model to predict the world it inhabits and make decisions about what to do. Do we have driverless cars that reliably navigate autonomously? Well... no!! Boston Dynamics keeps trying but the mechanical creatures are not sentient / fully autonomous and the videos are mostly marketing
